Sunday 1st June 2025 09:00am – 5.7 miles - Moderate
Parwich & Tissington (well dressings) walk

After two recces of this walk, we think we have found a route which we hope a good number of you will feel happy to tackle! There are a number of ascents but we have eliminated some of the climbing and umpteen tricky stiles.  However, this does mean a little more road walking (on a quiet lane) than originally planned.  The total length of the walk is now approx. 5.7 miles and we would class it as moderate.

Taking heed of fellow walkers’ experiences, we have changed the start point to PARWICH, which has a small free car park and plenty of roadside parking.

There is ample parking on Main Street. Starting at Elton Church (DE4 2BW) at 10am we descend north across fields. Crossing the road, we pass Cliff Farm, following the path north west to Hopping Farm. Soon after passing the caravan site, we turn north east until we reach the Limestone Way. Leaving the Limestone Way, we head towards Robin Hood’s Stride and then south on to Elton, turning right (west) back into the village.
Moderate walk with 316m (980 ft) total climb. Post recce (Wednesday 11th) notes: Panoramic views throughout. There are numerous stiles, mostly push through, but with some "up & overs". The last half mile is an 85m climb on tarmac.

Then continuing via Mill Farm, Hoveringham Gravel Pit Lakes, Hoveringham Village to the River Trent (1 stile). The easy walk returns to Caythorpe from the river, with the harder walk continuing on to Gunthorpe along the river bank. Returning to Caythorpe by a circular route. Upper Goyt Valley

The reservoirs of the Upper Goyt Valley occupy a scenic & popular location. Taxal church is in an attractive spot, after which the walk climbs grass & moor to follow a ridge over Windgather Rocks, noted for their rock climbs & the views over surrounding hills. The descent leads to the ruins of Errwood Hall, surrounded by varied woodland. There is then an easy walk along the banks of the reservoirs & beside the river back to the walk start. Moderate circular walk.

Sunday 27th July 2025 9:30am – 5.5 miles – Easy
Orston stroll

We suggest parking at or near Church St, Orston, (NG13 9NS). There is plenty of on road parking in the village. Setting off from the church at 10.30am we head south west from the pub and cross into Chapel Street. Continuing south west, we cross the railway and aim for Whatton-in-the-Vale. We hope to reach the pub (Cranmer Arms, Aslockton) in time for lunch, hence the later 9.30 am start. The pub doesn't serve meals so won't mind if we sit there, as long as we buy a drink. After lunch we head east out of the village and along the River Smite back to Orston.

Post recce notes: On 27th July is the Outlaw Triathlon. DON'T go to Orston via Car Colston, as our SatNav suggested. Most of the routes are restricted that day. Use the A52 as far as Elton and then turn left on Station Road. The walk is flat - the highest point is the humpback bridge! - with no stiles. Park sensitively anywhere in the village. We'll meet at the church on Church Street/The Green. Please let us know if you're going straight there.
Easy walk. No stiles.
