Walks Programme to September 2026​

​Sunday 26th July 2026 09:00am – 6.5 miles – Easy
Middleton Top and Harboro Rocks
Due to the recent and projected hot weather forecasts, and with fewer and fewer members likely to undertake a walk graded as "Strenuous", we have decided to change this walk for a less demanding alternative. Google maps estimate 48 mins to Middleton Top car park, so we'll aim to start the walk from there at 10 am. Please let us know if you are going straight there. We don't want to leave anyone behind. Please note: the postcode alone does not get you to the visitors' centre, despite being the centre's postcode! It gets you to the crossroads in Middleton near the Rising Sun. Go straight on and look for brown signs to Middleton Top car park.

The walk takes us west from Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail as far as the Limestone Way, where we turn north east. After just over a km we turn south east and eventually meet up with the High Peak Trail again, returning east to Middleton Top. The walk is mainly level with some undemanding climbs.

WALK START: 10.30am in Car Park

Parking: Berry Hill Car Park. NG18 4RP off Litchfield Lane, on the right-hand side, before the mini-roundabout, but not 'loudly' advertised! It's close to the entrance to the Coal Board Offices.

Berry Hill Park has undergone a £2 million + refurbishment during the last 2 years. The new Visitor's Centre (Cafe, toilets) is sadly not yet open, probably awaiting new catering management!

There is some essential road walking (unless we park at Kings Mill Car Park / or street parking). About ¾ mile (ish) each way, but it is no great hardship.

You could call this an industrial 'heritage' / 'nature conservation' walk / perhaps even add a 'political' edge to it since it seems that Amazon are intent to build another massive structure on one of the nearby fields........... I'll show you where!

We will be walking through the Bleak Hills towards Kings Mill Reservoir. Then......once round the Reservoir. The Visitor's Centre will be the refreshment stop. Return via a different route through Bleak Hills.

Bretton Clough
Bretton Clough – definitive ‘secret valley’ – tucked away at the heart of a moorland range that lies between Eyam and the
Hope Valley. This walk links Abney Clough and Bretton Clough with Eyam Edge, Hucklow Edge and Abney Moor.

contours to suit all. For details contact the walk leader the weekend before the walk, There will be time for a self-service
refreshment stop. Walks are normally in the countryside but can include anything that Nottinghamshire has to offer. We try
to avoid roads but can include quiet country lanes or villages.
Easy circular walk.

Hope Valley
This quiet walk offers a different perspective towards the more familiar landmarks of Mam Tor, Peveril Castle and Win Hill.
It follows an ancient network of trails, through farmland and by rivers, once walked by the Romans in this beautiful valley.

Bradford Dale
Starting at Moor Lane car park near Youlgreave (DE45 1LU). We shall depart the car park at 10.15 am. A steep, steady descent into Bradford Dale, where it follows the river for several miles. Returning across fields to regain the river with a 367m climb back to the car park.

There will be no further items for the Walks Programme after this date, in fact the website will disappear on 30th September. Updates to the current programme will continue to be made until then.
